It started, as most good things do, with family. I grew up in Orange County and started taking pictures of my kids — just a parent trying to capture moments that were moving too fast. I had no formal training. No photography school. Just a camera, a lot of curiosity, and an obsession with getting it right.
Then a friend asked me to photograph their wedding. I said yes when I probably should have said no. It went well. Word spread. And suddenly I had a business.
"Ten years later, I've photographed high-end weddings in multiple states, built a reputation for reliability and quality, and learned everything I know by doing — not by sitting in a classroom."
Wedding photography taught me things you can't learn any other way. How to read a room. How to capture emotion without manufacturing it. How to perform under pressure when there are no second chances. How to manage logistics, timelines, and difficult personalities — all while delivering images that a family will look at for generations.
But weddings consume weekends. And with nine children and a family I'm deeply committed to, I made a deliberate decision to build something different. Corporate photography lets me bring the same level of craft and professionalism to clients who need it — while being home on Saturday mornings.
What surprised me about the corporate world was how much I genuinely love it. Every engagement gives me a window into how successful organizations operate — the culture, the strategy, the people driving results. I walk away from every corporate shoot having learned something. That's rare in any profession.
Anchor Point Visuals is a play on my last name — Saylor. But it also represents something I believe in: being the fixed point that clients can count on. In a world where vendors are unreliable, communication is poor, and deliverables are late — I want to be the opposite of all of that.
That's the business I'm building. I hope you'll be a part of it.
